Another victory on the road

Bont continued their recent good run in the league with an away victory at bottom of the league Meifod.

The visitors made hard work of the victory though, and Andre Marsh’s men had to come back from being behind at half time to secure their fourth win in a row.

Meifod started the game well and constantly hit Bont on the counter-attack with some strong midfield running. The end product often let the home team down though – one headed effort from a corner was the best of their early chances.

Bont were creating half chances, but their final ball also often let them down. Bont finally got a good move going down the right, and from the cross, Jamie Evans controlled and shot low down to the right but the keeper made a great save for a corner.

Meifod scored after 20mins when a long free kick to the edge of the box was brought down by their striker and he turned his marker and shot low towards the bottom left corner, and the ball went in off the post. Bont almost equalized soon after when a good cross from Ian Lee was headed back across goal by Lowe but the effort went just wide of the post. Meifod again broke away before the interval and had a 3 on 1 situation but Trystan Jones produced a great last ditch tackle to ensure it was only 1-0 at half time.

The second period was virtually one-way-traffic as Bont piled forward and pressurised with some good crosses coming in from both flanks. Jamie Evans went close in the early exchanges when he was put through on the keeper and his flicked effort beat the keeper but come back off the post.

Sion Meredith and Trystan Jones tried their luck from distance but shot over the bar. Then, a Bont free kick from the left was met at the far post by Dewi Evans but his header also hit the post.

Finally, on the hour, the pressure told on Meifod. The visitors were practically camped in the home penalty area but the keeper finally managed to half clear the danger. Unfortunately for Meifod, his clearance landed at the feet of Trystan Jones who sent his lofted shot back over the retreating keeper from 30 yards out to draw the score even.

Five minutes later, Bont made it 2 - 1 when Owain Schiavone capitalised on a rebound to side foot into the empty net.

Meifod still counter-attacked but the Bont defence were on top, in particular Gwynfryn Hughes, who was again named man of the match by the Bont management.

Bont went searching for the third but Jamie Evans was guilty of missing a great chance from a cross, slicing his shot across the goal when it seemed easier to score. Schiavone then dragged a shot wide when one-on-one with the keeper, and then later lobbed the keeper only to see his effort scissor-kicked off the line in the closing minutes.

2-1 was enough to secure the victory for Bont which means they move up to sixth position in the league.
